“Let’s be real- We all have moments in our day when we feel down. Picking yourself up isn’t always easy, but these simple tricks might just have you smiling another day.”
1. Phone A Friend
Take a few minutes out of your day and call up a friend or family member. Talking about your problems or even just telling someone about your day can make a huge difference and uplift your mood. Studies have shown time and time again that calling is much more effective than texting- Using your voice to talk things out can help express emotion and leave you feeling relieved.
2. Rethink Your Drink
Hydration is extremely important and can definitely change your mood for the better. When possible during the day, something as simple as switching out a cup of soda or juice for water can make a difference. It is recommended that the average female drink about 11 cups of water a day, and the average male drink about 15 cups. Hydration can leave you feeling more upbeat and ready to face the day.

3. Unplug For A Day
As much as social media is an awesome way to interact with people and boost your mood, it can also be stressful and kill the vibe at times. Social media sites (Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram) can notify quite often, and a post telling you that friends are hanging out without you isn’t always the best notification to receive. Try deleting an app for a day and see how you feel. Turn on the “Do Not Disturb” setting on your smartphone or turn off notifications for apps that are constantly bugging you. Chances are you’ll find yourself much more at peace and in a lighter, brighter mood.
4. Buy Memories, Not Stuff
Recent studies have shown that you may be able to buy happiness after all- But not in the way you think. Instead of buying the latest pair of sunglasses or a trendy phone case, spend money on experiences you’re sure to remember. Concerts, music festivals and live music have shown to be beneficial for mental health and a happy lifestyle. They can decrease stress and increase your social bonds, whereas buying an object may give you temporary happiness- But often ends in feelings of guilt or short-lived satisfaction. Invest money in memories that can create a happy place for you!

5. Have A Jam Session
Sometimes, the best thing to do when you’re feeling down is to get up and dance! Resist the urge to put on sad or mellow songs, and crank up some sing-alongs or dance floor hits. If you’re really feeling it, take five minutes to do some at home workouts with the music. Exercise has been proven to uplift your mood, and some exciting tunes to go with it is a recipe for guaranteed happiness. Apps like Sworkit and Daily Yoga are great for workouts that take as little as five minutes out of your day!
