“Here are five things you should do to make your life Confucius-approved-simple:”
In the words of Confucius, “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
Here are five things you should do to make your life Confucius-approved-simple:
1. Ditch toxic people
The people you hang around have a tremendous impact on your life. Toxic people will complicate your life quickly. Spend time with people who make you feel better. Life will be much simpler when you are surrounded by good people who have your best interests in mind.
If you can’t completely cut out toxic life-complicates (they are family, co-workers, neighbors, etc.), don’t stoop to their level. Don’t waste time gossiping. Don’t talk badly about these people behind their back. It usually gets back to them, and will only create drama, and complicate your life. Ignore toxic people and behavior as much as possible. Many people underestimate the power of how the people around you affect your personal success.
2. Let go of unrealistic expectations, comparisons, and regret
Don’t expect too much from other people. Everyone reacts differently to situations, and you never know what the other person is going through. The more you judge, worry about, or compare yourself to others, the more complicated life will be.
It’s easy to complicate your life by assuming other people can read your mind. Life is simpler when you appreciate what is, rather than worrying about what “should be.” For the most part, everyone is doing the best they can in life. Give them a break.
Keep your expectations realistic. Simplify your daily goals and focus on what is essential and obtainable. Don’t compare yourself to others. Focus on the positive, and what you can accomplish today.
3. Don’t lie, cheat, steal, or get into massive debt
It’s complicated to remember what you said to whom. It’s much simpler to tell the truth. Similarly, life gets complicated when you cheat, and constantly have to cover your tracks.
Spending money you don’t have, and getting into debt is a quick way to complicate things. The more things you own and have to worry about, the more complicated life gets. There is no greater wealth than peace of mind.
4. Keep engaged and find your zone
An empty mind is the devil’s playground. It sounds weird and counter-intuitive, but when you are bored you can easily complicate things. Keep engaged with life. Take up hobbies. Spend time doing what you love.
Simplicity and happiness often come from Flow.
Also known as being in the zone:The mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does.
Find what makes you happy and do more of it. Get in the zone. Stop multi-tasking and trying to do everything all at once.
5. Eat well, get enough exercise, and sleep
Most things seem a lot more complicated when you are tired or hungry. Sleep and eat well. Live like you are a diabetic with a heart condition, so you never actually become one!
