“Your mind get’s bored and is looking for something to do, and when you are tired it’s easier for it to be negative.”
That the Voice inside your head is Bull Shit!
I cannot express to you how many times I’ve been running for seven minutes when the voice inside my head tells me that there is no way I’ll be able to go any further.
It starts telling me that my legs might cramp, that my heart is beating to too hard, that I won’t be able to make it to my destination, that I need to walk because if I don’t I might die.
But I still keep putting one foot ahead of the other. Soon those thoughts lessen in intensity. I’d carry on. Eventually, finish.
This showed me that the voice we have in our head is often wrong. The one that would tell me that I couldn’t finish my run, is the same voice that was telling me “That girl would never go for you” or “You will never be able to move to New York” or “You’ll never get in to Law School” or “You’ll never be successful.”
Soon I realized that the voice in my head was just talking like that because it was bored. It wasn’t that the run was that hard, it wasn’t that I didn’t think I could finish the entire run, it’s that your mind get’s bored and is looking for something to do, and when you are tired it’s easier for it to be negative.
I also learned that thinking about how far you have to go is more exhausting than just putting one foot ahead of the other and enjoying the run
In life we tend to exhaust ourselves by thinking about how far we are from our ideal living situation. Whether it’s weight loss goals, career goals, or how we have no one to hold us at night, our lives can look very distant from where we would like them to be,
But if we just put one foot ahead of the other long enough, and not think about how far we have to go, we can enjoy life’s run a lot more.
